A fan assaulted , a former Manchester United captain and current pundit, following a Premier League match last year.
The court found Scott Law, 43, guilty of common assault after a trial at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court. The incident occurred at the Emirates Stadium on September 3rd, 2023, after Arsenal defeated Manchester United 3-1.
Footage circulating on social media showed Keane’s fellow pundit, Micah Richards, intervening in the altercation. Keane himself described feeling “in shock” after the incident.
Law, who pleaded not guilty, claimed Keane initiated the confrontation and challenged him to a fight outside the stadium.
The prosecution presented a different story. According to their account, Keane and Richards were simply walking to their designated area for post-match analysis when Law approached and headbutted Keane through a doorway.
Law’s defense argued that CCTV footage captured Keane elbowing Law in the face first. Keane denied these accusations and maintained his innocence throughout the trial.
District Judge Angus Hamilton ultimately sided with Keane’s testimony, highlighting Law’s inconsistent statements and lack of motive from Keane. The judge also emphasized that Keane’s reputation as a tough player was irrelevant in this situation.
Law received a community order, a football banning order, and was ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge as punishment.
