Tottenham Hotspur will look to build on their impressive 5-0 victory against Southampton as they aim to edge closer to a coveted piece of silverware in the Carabao Cup. Ange Postecoglou’s side faces Manchester United in the quarter-finals on Thursday, December 18, a match that could bring them one step closer to a trip to Wembley.

Spurs, who haven’t lifted a trophy since their 2008 League Cup victory, have long struggled with their lack of silverware. Postecoglou has added extra anticipation to this season, claiming that he has always won a trophy in his second year at each of his previous clubs, making this clash with United even more significant.

The match, set to kick off at 8 pm, pits Spurs against Ruben Amorim’s United, who are fresh off a 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Manchester derby— their first win in the fixture since last season’s FA Cup final. Given this context, Tottenham has a lot riding on the game, as it represents their best chance at silverware under Postecoglou this season.

EFL Appoint Referees for Quarter-Final Clash

The EFL has confirmed the officiating team for the high-stakes encounter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. John Brooks will serve as the referee, overseeing his 14th match of the season. Brooks has already shown a penchant for handing out yellow cards, issuing 72 so far without sending off any players. He has officiated in several notable Premier League matches, including Tottenham’s dominant 4-0 win against Manchester City in November, where he brandished six yellow cards.

Brooks will be assisted by Simon Bennett and Daniel Robathan, who have both worked alongside him in multiple games this season, including the Tottenham-Manchester City match. Gavin Ward will take on the role of fourth official. Ward has primarily officiated Championship matches this season, overseeing 13 games with 58 yellow cards and five red cards.

With the quarter-final set to be a tense affair, all eyes will be on Brooks and his team to ensure they officiate the match fairly and smoothly as both teams battle for a place in the semi-finals.
