Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is determined to retain Bruno Guimaraes amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and has urged the club’s owners to demonstrate their ambition this summer.
Despite Guimaraes being valued at £100 million and attracting attention from top clubs, including PSG, Howe is adamant about keeping the Brazilian midfielder at Newcastle for as long as possible. While acknowledging the uncertainty in football, Howe emphasized Guimaraes’ importance to the team and his desire to see him stay.
However, Howe conceded that doubling a player’s wages at a Champions League club could pose a challenge in retaining them. He stressed the need to make players feel valued, happy, and develop their careers to encourage long-term commitment.

Guimaraes has been instrumental in Newcastle’s midfield despite injuries this season. Drawing praise from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as an exceptional holding midfielder. Howe acknowledged the possibility of fending off summer approaches for Guimaraes but expressed his desire to keep both him and Alexander Isak at the club.
Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, Howe emphasized the importance of showcasing Newcastle’s ambitions and pushing the club forward. He underscored the need for concrete actions to demonstrate the club’s commitment to progression rather than mere talk.
In addition, Howe addressed the issue of player criticism on social media. Advising his players to focus on feedback from trusted sources and ignore unfounded opinions. He warned against the potential negative impact of faceless criticism and encouraged players to maintain a small circle of trusted advisors.
