David de Gea has resurfaced in Manchester United training attire as he continues to vie for a new contract.
After being released from Old Trafford last season, the Spanish goalkeeper has remained clubless for a full year. His last appearance came in the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City.
During this time, the 33-year-old has been diligently keeping himself fit. As evidenced by several videos showcasing his participation in training drills.
Recently, De Gea shared an image from Altrincham’s training ground with the caption. “I’ll be back,” reaffirming his connection with his former club.
In newly emerged pictures, De Gea was seen donning United training gear, a familiar sight that he also presented last month.
His choice of attire sparks intrigue, especially amid speculation linking him with a return to Old Trafford following Andre Onana’s challenging start at the club. However, no concrete move materialized.
Other clubs, including Bayern Munich and Newcastle, were reportedly interested, particularly with injuries to Manuel Neuer and Nick Pope. Additionally, Spanish clubs such as Real Betis and even a move to Saudi Arabia have been rumored for De Gea.
Erik ten Hag shed light on the decision to part ways with the long-serving goalkeeper at the start of the season, acknowledging De Gea’s significant contributions to Manchester United.
“David has done massive things for Manchester United, and we all respect him,” said Ten Hag. “But sometimes, as a team, especially at the top, you move in another direction. When you spend 12 years at Man United, there comes a period when players will come and go.”
De Gea’s future remains uncertain, but his commitment to maintaining fitness and his ties to Manchester United suggest that he remains open to all possibilities as he seeks his next career move.
