Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has lauded as Chelsea’s standout player of the season, drawing an intriguing comparison to Tottenham’s James Maddison.
Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, has been a bright spot for the team amid a challenging season. With 19 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, Palmer has emerged as a pivotal figure in Chelsea’s lineup.
Fabregas expressed his surprise at Palmer’s impact, likening the 21-year-old forward to Tottenham’s Maddison. Fabregas noted Palmer’s ability to dictate play, create scoring opportunities, and maintain composure in crucial moments, similar to Maddison’s style of play.

Speaking on the BBC’s Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas said, “He looks to me a bit like James Maddison for Tottenham. He’s that type of player that makes the team tick. He has this pause in him – sometimes in modern football, everything accelerates too fast and players don’t understand the moment when to pass or when to move.”
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino also praised Palmer’s mental strength and ability to handle pressure following his hat-trick against Manchester United. Pochettino commended Palmer’s consistency and performance under pressure, highlighting his potential to become a top player.
Palmer’s impressive contributions have earned him recognition as Chelsea’s player of the year, showcasing his significant impact on the team despite his young age and limited experience.
