Bayern Munich surged back to the top of the Bundesliga standings with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Bochum on Sunday, bouncing back from a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League earlier in the week. This decisive win allowed Bayern to reclaim the summit of the table on goal difference, following RB Leipzig’s temporary rise after their 3-1 win over Freiburg on Saturday.

In a commanding display, five different players found the back of the net for Bayern, showcasing their attacking prowess. Jamal Musiala, who contributed significantly to the victory, expressed his delight, stating, “It’s fun to score goals. We can be happy today and take the rhythm and flow with us into the next few games.”

Despite the victory, Bayern’s form under new coach Vincent Kompany had been inconsistent. With the team managing only one win in their previous six matches across all competitions. Reflecting on their recent challenges, Musiala remarked, “It was hard to take and it hurt. We have to look ahead — it’s still early in the season.”

Bochum nearly struck first when Moritz Broschinski outpaced defender Minjae Kim and got a shot past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. However, the effort lacked power and was cleared off the line by Kim, keeping the match scoreless.

Bayern eventually opened the scoring with a well-executed free kick from Olise, which caught Bochum’s goalkeeper Patrick Drewes off guard. Musiala then doubled the lead just ten minutes later, heading home from a Joshua Kimmich free kick.

The second half saw Bayern further assert their dominance, adding three more goals to their tally. Harry Kane netted his ninth goal in just eight league appearances, followed by strikes from Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman, cementing the team’s comprehensive victory.

“Bayern simply showed their quality,” commented Bochum’s Maximilian Wittek, reflecting on the gap in performance between the two sides. With this win, Bayern sits atop the Bundesliga table, while Bochum remains at the bottom, struggling with just one point from eight games.

In other Bundesliga action, Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt played to a 1-1 draw. Mario Götze opened the scoring for Frankfurt, but Union’s Benedict Hollerbach equalized. However, a potential winning goal for Union was disallowed by VAR for offside, a decision Hollerbach labeled as “scandalous.”

Later on Sunday, Heidenheim will face Hoffenheim in the final match of the Bundesliga round, rounding out an eventful weekend in German football.
