Besiktas’ new president, Hasan Arat, plans to revamp by removing foreign stars and focusing on nurturing grassroots talent.

Besiktas recently made a bold move by releasing five experienced players from their senior squad due to ‘poor performance and incompatibility with the team.’ This decision marks a significant shift in the club’s direction under the leadership of Hasan Arat.
Arat emphasizes a new approach, stating, “We will not be a place for players to end their careers. We aim to build a team of young fighters and focus on nurturing grassroots talent, aligning with our supporters’ mentality.”
With 63% of the vote, Arat’s strategy signifies a shift, emphasizing local talent and prioritizing grassroots players.
Striving for a strategy shift, Arat admits prior errors in losing crucial grassroots players and rushed, unplanned transfers. His immediate task is to rectify these issues.
Besiktas’ ambition is to tap into local talent by expanding their academy and creating networks within the Turkish diaspora, primarily in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, and beyond.

The club’s recent history saw a decline in success despite significant spending, leading to debt and financial challenges. Arat aims to rectify this by addressing finances and steering clear of unnecessary spending on transfers.
Finding a balance between experienced and young players is key for Arat. While acknowledging the value of star players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, he aims for a hybrid model with a limited focus on high-profile signings.
Arat’s emphasis on reconnecting with club legends, respectful treatment of former players, and building a sense of unity among fans is central to his strategy. The appointment of former player Riza Calimbay as coach reflects this approach.
Improved transparency and communication with supporters are also priorities, demonstrated by transparent ticket-selling processes and an honest, open approach.
Despite recent losses and a challenging period, Arat remains optimistic about the club’s future. He acknowledges that change takes time but is committed to laying the groundwork for Besiktas’ resurgence.
