As Arsenal gears up for the start of the Premier League season, Mikel Arteta and his team are not only focusing on their campaign but also on strengthening their squad before the transfer window closes.
Mikel Merino Deal in the Works
Arsenal has reportedly made significant progress in their pursuit of Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino. The Spanish international, who is in the final year of his contract with Sociedad, appears set to join the Gunners. According to Radio Marca Donostia via Sport Witness, Arsenal has agreed to a £29.8 million fee for Merino. Reports indicate that they have resolved negotiations over the payment structure, and the parties have agreed on personal terms. Fabrizio Romano notes that Merino eagerly wants to work with Arteta and finds club’s technical project and managerial approach impressive.
Striker Search Continues
With less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window, Arsenal is still exploring options for a new striker. The club is reportedly considering Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson. Gimenez has been valued at £42.5 million, while Gyokeres is now available for £50-60 million, down from an initial £80 million valuation. Ferguson may be the most expensive option, with potential competition from Manchester United and Chelsea.
Arteta has remained composed about the need for a forward, expressing confidence in his current attacking options. “We have great strikers already, and I’m really pleased with our attacking line,” Arteta said.
Transfer Window Activity
So far this summer, Arsenal has made one significant senior signing, Riccardo Calafiori, and secured David Raya’s move to the Emirates on a permanent basis. As the transfer window draws to a close, Arsenal focuses on finalizing deals and enhancing their squad depth.
As the season begins, Arsenal’s transfer activity remains a key topic, with fans eagerly awaiting the final moves in what has been an eventful window for the club.
