An unsightly incident marred the conclusion of Saturday’s match between Clyde and Bonnyrigg Rose, as Clyde midfielder Liam Scullion found himself in an altercation with a fan of the opposing team.
Despite Clyde securing a 2-1 victory at New Dundas Park, courtesy of a brace from Jordan Allan, the post match scenes turned sour when a Bonnyrigg Rose supporter spat at Scullion. In response, the 22 year old midfielder appeared to retaliate by spitting back at the fan.
A video of the altercation was shared on social media by a Bonnyrigg fan, condemning Scullion’s actions as “shocking.” However, other observers were quick to criticize the initial act of aggression by the Bonnyrigg supporter.

While acknowledging the unacceptable behavior of the fan who spat first, many voiced their disapproval of Scullion’s retaliation, anticipating potential disciplinary action against him.
The match itself held significant importance in the context of Scottish League Two relegation battles, with Clyde’s victory narrowing the gap between them and relegation-threatened clubs like Stranraer and Bonnyrigg Rose. The bottom placed team in the league faces a challenging Pyramid play off to retain their spot in the competition.
Clyde manager Ian McCall expressed optimism about his team’s chances of avoid relegation, citing their recent run of form with three wins in their last four matches. McCall emphasized the need to continue winning games to improve their position in the league standings.
Taking charge of Clyde in November, McCall acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead, particularly in avoid relegation. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to helping Clyde regain their former status and success in Scottish football.
