WTC Points Table: Latest Update After India’s 3-1 Series Defeat in Australia

India’s loss to Australia in the fifth and final Test dashed their hopes of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Despite a solid performance throughout the WTC cycle, India’s inconsistent results, especially in crucial matches, meant they couldn’t secure a spot in the final. After Australia’s six-wicket victory, the updated WTC table revealed India’s elimination from the race.

WTC Points Table: Latest Update After India's 3-1 Series Defeat in Australia

India had played 19 matches in the current WTC cycle, winning 9 and losing 8, amassing 114 points with a 50% win rate. However, this was not enough to surpass the top two teams, Australia and South Africa. Australia, with 130 points and a 63.73% win rate, secured their place in the final, while South Africa topped the standings with a 66.67% win rate.

The final Test, which was crucial for India’s qualification hopes, saw them defend a modest target of 162 runs. However, India’s struggles were compounded by Jasprit Bumrah’s absence due to injury, leaving them without their spearhead in the second innings. India’s seam bowlers, including Prasidh Krishna, were unable to capitalize on the conditions, and Australia easily chased down the target. Travis Head and Usman Khawaja steadied the ship after early wickets, and debutant Beau Webster sealed the victory for Australia.

India’s failure to perform in vital moments of the series ultimately cost them their chance at reaching the WTC final, bringing an end to their qualification dreams for the 2025 WTC final.
