MCC’s law 41.14.1, categorized under Unfair Play, states that deliberate or avoidable damage to the pitch is unacceptable. If a batter enters the protected area while playing the ball, they must move away immediately thereafter. A batter will be deemed to cause avoidable damage if their presence on the pitch lacks reasonable cause.

The law mandates a first and final warning, which applies throughout the innings. If any team member repeats the offense during the innings, the batting side will receive a five-run penalty.
