Vishnu Vinod Out, Harvik Desai In for IPL 2024 with MI

In a significant development, explosive Kerala batter Vishnu Vinod has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2024 due to a forearm injury. The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), led by skipper Hardik Pandya, have swiftly addressed this setback by roping in Saurashtra’s promising keeper-batter, Harvik Desai, as his replacement.

The IPL’s official handle on the social media platform X confirmed the news of Vishnu Vinod’s injury and Desai’s inclusion as a replacement player. While Vinod didn’t feature in any game for MI this season, his absence leaves a noticeable gap in their squad.

Despite his undeniable talent, Vishnu Vinod’s struggled to make an impact in the previous IPL season, managing only 37 runs in three outings. Although he started the tournament impressively with a quick-fire 20-ball 30 against the Gujarat Titans, his subsequent failures against LSG and GT led to his exclusion from the playing XI.

In contrast, Harvik Desai arrives with a commendable track record, having emerged as Saurashtra’s most successful batter in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24. He amassed an impressive 336 runs in seven innings at an average of 67.20 and a blistering strike rate of 175.

However, with Ishan Kishan serving as MI’s primary wicketkeeper, Desai may not find immediate entry into the final XI upon joining the setup.

Tonight, under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, MI are gearing up to face their arch-rivals, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), in their fifth crucial group-stage match. It will be interesting to see if Desai gets a chance to showcase his talent alongside established stars like Rohit Sharma (if he recovers from his injury) and Jasprit Bumrah.
