On January 25, Indian cricket maestro Virat Kohli secured the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023 Award, marking his fourth win in this prestigious category. Kohli’s outstanding performance throughout the year, particularly in the World Cup at home, earned him this well-deserved recognition.

Virat Kohli, the former India skipper, concluded the year as the second-highest run-scorer in ODIs, amassing 1,377 runs with six centuries and eight half-centuries. Notably, he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s longstanding record of ODI centuries, making a significant contribution to India’s journey to the World Cup final. Kohli’s remarkable achievement included winning the Player of the Tournament prize for his record-breaking 765 runs in 11 matches.
Kohli’s seventh ICC award, his fourth in ODIs, solidifies his cricket legacy. He surpassed Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, and Daryl Mitchell at the award ceremony. This marks another milestone in Kohli’s illustrious career.
Despite not winning the Cricketer of the Year Award, Kohli remains a cricket icon. The award went to Pat Cummins, who led Australia to victories in the World Test Championship and World Cup. Cummins’ exceptional year earned him the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for men’s Cricketer of the Year.
Other significant ICC awards include Australia’s Usman Khawaja, recognized as the men’s Test Cricketer of the Year. Adding to the accolades, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu clinched her maiden women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award, highlighting her exceptional contribution to the sport. Additionally, the distinguished England umpire Richard Illingworth was honored with the David Shepherd Trophy for Umpire of the Year.
Zimbabwe received the Spirit of Cricket Award for their exemplary conduct after a thrilling victory over West Indies in the men’s World Cup Qualifier match in Harare.
Cummins expressed gratitude for the honor, recognizing the team’s remarkable success. His outstanding contributions, with 42 wickets in Tests and 17 in ODIs, were pivotal for Australia’s achievements. Cummins played a crucial role in the World Test Championship win and Ashes retention.
