Uncertainty over Rohit attending Champions Trophy captains’ event in Pakistan

There is no confirmation yet on whether India captain Rohit Sharma will travel to Pakistan for the ICC captains’ event ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The organizers have tentatively scheduled the event for February 16 or 17 in Karachi, following the practice of holding it in the host country. However, the BCCI has not received any official communication from the ICC about Rohit’s participation.

Newly-appointed BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia clarified that the board has not discussed Rohit’s travel to Pakistan and has not included it on the agenda. The need for Indian government approval for Rohit’s visit remains uncertain.

Due to ongoing political tensions, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2012, meeting only in ICC tournaments. While Pakistan has traveled to India for ICC events during this period, India has not played in Pakistan since 2008. The BCCI has already confirmed that India will not play Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan, with Dubai set as the host venue for India’s games under a hybrid model approved by the ICC.

The PCB has requested the ICC to ensure all captains attend the pre-tournament photoshoot, opening ceremony, and related activities. However, logistics and travel dates for teams are still being finalized. Notably, the ICC skipped a captains’ event for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup due to logistical challenges, instead opting for a virtual launch.

Separately, Saikia confirmed that India would fully comply with ICC uniform regulations, dismissing speculation about objections to Pakistan’s name on jerseys. He emphasized that India will adhere to every ICC rule related to the tournament’s dress code.
