In a dramatic turn of events surrounding the recent IPL 2024 match between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the city police cracked down on illegal ticket sales around the stadium. Chennai Police Commissioner, Sandeep Rai Rathore, ordered strict surveillance to curb black market ticket sales. Consequently, this initiative led to the arrest of several individuals involved in this unlawful activity.

The crackdown resulted in the apprehension of twelve people, including T. Elumalai (38, Andhra Pradesh), Hayatbasha Noor Mohammad (38, Triplicane), S. Shyam (20, T. Nagar), and S. Kishore (27). Subsequently, Tamil Nadu Police arrested these individuals for selling tickets at exorbitant prices, seizing a total of 56 tickets worth a staggering ₹1,40,396 from them. They promptly initiated legal action against all twelve arrested individuals.
Turning to the match itself, CSK faced a stiff challenge from LSG, eventually succumbing in a nail-biting final over. Despite posting a competitive total of 211 runs, fueled by a brilliant century from Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK couldn’t defend their score. The hero for LSG was Marcus Stoinis, who played a sensational innings, scoring an unbeaten 124 off just 63 deliveries, and guiding his team to a thrilling victory. This remarkable chase marked the highest-ever successful run chase at the historic Chepauk Stadium. Often referred to as the fortress of the Chennai Super Kings, it highlighted the team’s dominance.
