India is in top form, remaining unbeaten in the tournament so far with six wins out of seven matches. Their game against Canada was abandoned due to rain. England, however, lost one game in the Super 8 round and finished second in their group behind South Africa.
India and England have faced each other four times in T20 World Cup history, with each team winning two matches. The last encounter between these two teams was in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup on November 10 at Adelaide Oval. England defeated India by 10 wickets to advance to the finals.
In that match, England won the toss and chose to field. India‘s batting lineup struggled, scoring only 168/6, with Hardik Pandya top-scoring with 63 off 33 balls and Virat Kohli also contributing a fifty. Chris Jordan was the standout bowler for England, taking three wickets.
In response, England‘s openers, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, dominated the Indian bowlers, winning the match by 10 wickets with four overs to spare. Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls, and the match officials named Alex Hales the player of the match for his unbeaten 86 off 47 balls. This defeat knocked India out of the tournament, extending their ICC trophy drought. Several players, including Rohit Sharma, showed visible emotion.
