As India gears up for the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York City, most of the team members have commenced their training sessions, except for Virat Kohli, who is yet to arrive. His absence raises concerns regarding his participation in India’s warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, with no updates from the BCCI regarding his travel status.
The Indian team has traveled to New York in stages, with players from IPL 2024 teams eliminated in the league stage arriving first. However, Kohli’s delayed arrival remains a point of uncertainty.
Soham Desai, the team’s strength and conditioning coach, outlined the training routine aimed at acclimatizing the players to the time zone and preparing them for match readiness. The team engaged in warm-up exercises, running sessions, basic strength training, and football drills.
Desai emphasized the importance of assessing the players’ fitness levels after their prolonged stint in IPL 2024 and tailoring individual training plans accordingly.
Despite Kohli’s absence, players like Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Suryakumar Yadav expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament, highlighting the positive atmosphere and the excitement of playing in a new location.
With India’s first match against Ireland scheduled for June 5, followed by crucial encounters against Pakistan, USA, and Canada, the team aims to make the most of their training sessions in New York before heading to Lauderhill, Florida, for their final group-stage fixture.
