Australia cruised to victory against Pakistan, winning by nine wickets after bowling them out for just 82 runs, the lowest total of the tournament. Despite facing injuries to key players, including captain Alyssa Healy, the Australian side showcased their depth and skill, inching closer to a place in the semifinals.

Pakistan’s Struggles

Australia Nears Semifinals After Pakistan Collapses for 82 Runs

Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled significantly, with only Aliya Riaz scoring more than 20 runs, contributing 26. The absence of captain Fatima Sana, who missed the match due to the passing of her father, and senior seamer Diana Baig, recovering from injury, further weakened the team. Their batting was characterized by five players scoring in single figures and a lack of meaningful partnerships, with no collaboration exceeding 19 runs.

Australia’s Bowling Dominance

Australia’s bowlers made run-scoring difficult for Pakistan. Tayla Vlaeminck, who dislocated her shoulder before bowling a single delivery, left the field early, but the remaining bowlers maintained pressure. Megan Schutt, who took her 144th T20I wicket, now leads the tournament’s wicket-takers. Ash Gardner, with her excellent bowling, continued to apply pressure, while Australia’s fielding was sharp despite Healy’s injury.

Smooth Chase

Chasing 83 runs, Australia reached 83 for 1 in just 11 overs, led by Ellyse Perry’s unbeaten 22 and Healy’s initial 37 runs, which included five boundaries. Although Healy retired hurt with a foot injury, Perry and Gardner secured the win comfortably, improving Australia’s net run-rate to 2.786. Australia’s final group match is against India, while Pakistan faces New Zealand next, with both teams hoping to secure their positions in the knockout stage.
