Shaheen Shah Afridi to resign as Pakistan’s T20I captain, according to reports

Following Babar Azam’s resignation as T20I captain post the disappointing 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, Shaheen Shah Afridi assumed the role of captaincy for Pakistan’s T20I team. However, reports suggest that Afridi is contemplating stepping down from his position due to the team’s poor performances and a lack of communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding future captaincy plans.

A reliable source close to Afridi reports that the fast bowler feels disappointed due to the lack of communication from Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB Chairman, and the national selectors regarding the team’s leadership. Afridi especially worries about his exclusion from discussions held by the PCB chief with the national selectors and Babar Azam regarding the upcoming T20 World Cup, coach appointments, and captaincy decisions.

The source further revealed that Afridi feels if the PCB intends to replace him, they should have informed him by now, as he is even willing to step down voluntarily. Advised by close associates, Afridi is considering stepping away from the chaos and confusion caused by the Board’s lack of transparency in their decision-making processes.
