Shadab Khan and Agha Salman Lead Islamabad United to Victory Against Lahore Qalandars in PSL Opener

Despite facing a daunting target, Islamabad United capitalized on Lahore Qalandars’ lapses in fielding, as they dropped Shadab Khan twice and missed several run-out opportunities. The Qalandars bowlers struggled to contain United’s batsmen, with Alex Hales providing an explosive start before Salman Fayyaz claimed his wicket with a sharp return catch.

Following Hales’ dismissal, Shadab Khan showcased his batting prowess, displaying impeccable timing and placement against both pace and spin bowlers. Agha Salman’s explosive innings, remaining not out with 64 runs off just 31 deliveries, complemented his unbeaten knock of 74 runs off 41 balls. The match concluded with a towering six from United’s captain, sealing their victory and reaching the 200-run mark.

While Lahore Qalandars began their innings with promise, with Sahibzada Farhan scoring a quick half-century, their scoring rate was inconsistent. Fakhar Zaman struggled to find his rhythm and was dismissed by Shadab Khan on his first ball faced. As Qalandars tried to regain momentum, Farhan’s departure further slowed their progress, allowing Islamabad United to take control of the game.

Despite a valiant effort from Rassie van der Dussen, who scored an unbeaten 71 off 41 balls, and late fireworks from David Wiese, Lahore Qalandars fell short of their target. Islamabad United’s dominant performance with both bat and ball secured them a convincing victory in the opening match of PSL 2024.
