During Rajasthan Royals’ recent match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Captain Sanju Samson found himself facing a 30% fine of his match fees for a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.

Though the specific offense was not detailed, it’s speculated that it stemmed from an incident during RR’s chase of 222 runs, where Samson, who scored 86, was given out after Shai Hope took a catch near the boundary ropes in the 16th over. The contentious point was whether Hope’s feet touched the boundary ropes while taking the catch.

The third umpire upheld the decision to dismiss Samson, but the RR skipper expressed his disagreement. Initially heading towards the pavilion, Samson returned to the field to engage in a discussion with the on-field umpires.

The IPL later announced that Samson was found in breach of Level 1 offense under Article 2. 8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. This includes actions such as displaying excessive disappointment with an umpire’s decision. Causing an obvious delay in resuming play, requesting a referral to the TV umpire. Or engaging in a prolonged argument with the umpire.

Samson accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee. Emphasizing the finality and binding nature of decisions regarding Level 1 breaches.

This isn’t the first instance of disciplinary action against Samson during this IPL season. Earlier, on April 10, he was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during RR’s match against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.
