In a tightly contested match at Mullanpur Stadium, the Gujarat Titans emerged victorious by three wickets against the struggling Punjab Kings. Acting captain Sam Curran, standing in for the injured Shikhar Dhawan, expressed his disappointment at the team’s loss.
Punjab Kings’ Struggles Continue
The Punjab Kings’ struggles persisted as they faced another defeat, this time at home against the previously struggling Gujarat Titans. Batting first, Punjab Kings managed to post a total of 142 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
The bowling trio of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Sai Kishore bowled exceptionally well, restricting Punjab Kings to a moderate total.
In response to PBKS’ 142, the Gujarat Titans chased down the target with three wickets in hand and five balls remaining. Rahul Tewatia’s brilliant cameo innings played a crucial role in easing the chase for the Titans.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans climbed to the 6th position in the table, while the Punjab Kings remained at the lowly 9th position.
“I believe we were 10-15 runs short. The effort with the ball was commendable, and the team showed great commitment and fight, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. The Afghanistan spinners are world-class bowlers, and Sai Kishore bowled exceptionally well. Credit to them. This was the third time we played on that pitch, and anything above 160 would have been a par total. Despite that, we fought well,” remarked Sam Curran post-match.
Throughout the season, Punjab Kings’ batting has been below par. In many matches, it was the young talents Shashank and Ashutosh who kept them in contention. However, when both had an off day, Punjab Kings struggled to post a competitive score, which the Gujarat Titans successfully chased down. PBKS now face the daunting task of winning all remaining games to stay in the playoff race.
