Kane Williamson and Chris Woakes have joined Durban’s Super Giants as direct signings for SA20 2025. This marks the first SA20 stint for both players. The tournament will run from January 9 to February 8, with the deadline for retentions on July 21 and for direct signings on August 31.

Williamson had previously announced that he would participate in SA20 2025 after opting out of a New Zealand cricket central contract for the 2024-25 season and stepping down as captain. Despite this, he emphasized his commitment to New Zealand cricket outside of the tournament. “There’s a number of great competitions on during that time, but SA20 looks really exciting,” Williamson told reporters. “Unfortunately, it meant turning down a central contract. However, my priority still is, absolutely, playing for New Zealand. I think I miss maybe a handful of games over a three-week period.”
Woakes, a key white-ball player for England cricket, has been instrumental with the new ball in their 2019 ODI and 2022 T20I World Cup victories. Despite his success, he was not selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In addition to Williamson and Woakes, other notable signings for SA20 2025 include Joe Root, who joined the Paarl Royals, and Ben Stokes, who has been offered a substantial contract by MI Cape Town.
Durban’s Super Giants were the runners-up last season, losing to Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final. The addition of Williamson and Woakes aims to strengthen their squad as they seek to capture the SA20 2025 title.
