Rohit Sharma recently made headlines for delivering a motivational pep talk during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Jammu and Kashmir. Although Rohit wasn’t the captain – with Ajinkya Rahane leading the side – he took it upon himself to address the team in a huddle before the final innings on Day 3 at the Bandra Kurla Complex Ground. A video of his speech went viral, earning praise from fans across social media.

Rohit’s performance in the match wasn’t remarkable, scoring just 3 and 28 in the two innings. Mumbai faced early struggles, posting only 120 runs in their first innings, while Jammu and Kashmir capitalized, taking an 84-run lead with 206. J&K’s Shubham Khajuria (53) and Abid Mushtaq (44) were the top contributors, while Mumbai’s Mohit Avasthi impressed with a five-wicket haul (5/52).
In their second innings, Mumbai’s top order failed again, with Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal providing some hope with a 54-run opening partnership. However, the team collapsed to 101/7, with key players like Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Shivam Dube falling short.
Mumbai’s lower order, led by Shardul Thakur, came to the rescue. Thakur, who had scored a fighting 51 in the first innings, struck an unbeaten 113 in the second. He combined with Tanush Kotian (58*) for a crucial 173-run partnership, helping Mumbai post 274/7 and setting J&K a target of 205 runs.
Despite a solid 45 from Khajuria and 38 from Vivrant Sharma, Jammu and Kashmir chased down the target with a 5-wicket victory, securing a thrilling win in this Ranji Trophy match.
