India are confident of handling any conditions in Dubai, whether it’s overcast skies, dew, or movement in the air. Skipper Rohit Sharma emphasized that his team has the bowling options to adapt, as they prepare for their Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh.

India have played nine T20Is in Dubai since October 2021 but haven’t featured in an ODI here since 2018. Despite that, Rohit believes their squad’s versatility will help them adjust quickly. “If it’s overcast, we have the bowlers to exploit it. If we bat first in tough conditions, our batters know how to handle it,” he said.
The squad’s depth lies in its “multi-skilled” players like Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja, who provide both bowling options and batting depth. With Jasprit Bumrah ruled out due to injury, these all-rounders could play a crucial role in India’s campaign.
One of India’s specialist bowlers, wrist-spinner Varun Chakravarthy, remains a mystery even to his teammates. “He doesn’t reveal his variations in the nets. He has certain weapons he wants to unleash only in matches,” Rohit revealed. With 60 wickets from 24 List A games at an average of 14.80, he brings an element of surprise.
Another key bowler for India is Mohammad Shami, who recently returned from ankle surgery. He bowled only 15.5 overs in two ODIs against England but picked up a wicket in each match. With Bumrah absent, Shami’s form will be crucial. “For us, it was just about getting him back in India colors. His rhythm will be key in this tournament,” Rohit said.
India’s first match is against Bangladesh, and Rohit is confident his team has the right balance to adapt and succeed.
