In a promising, albeit short-lived, return to the field, Rishabh Pant showcased glimpses of his talent during the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL 2024. Pant’s brisk knock of 18 runs, including two boundaries, filled his comeback with emotions and unfulfilled potential despite his dismissal.

Walking out to bat at number 4 after the dismissal of David Warner, Pant displayed clear intent to build a substantial innings. However, Harshal Patel thwarted his eagerness with a well executed delivery. Patel, bowling from around the wicket, cleverly disguised a slower short ball aimed at the left-handed batsman’s offside.
Pant, misinterpreting the change of pace, ended up edging the delivery towards Jonny Bairstow stationed at point, who gleefully accepted the straightforward catch. This wicket changed the game, as Ricky Bhui and Tristan Stubbs got out soon after, leaving Delhi Capitals in a tough spot at 128-6 after 16 overs. The Punjab Kings bowlers executed their plans well, stopping Delhi’s batsmen and putting them in trouble.
