In a significant setback, Pakistan’s key all-rounder Imad Wasim is facing exclusion from the entire T20 World Cup 2024 due to a side strain injury.

The 35-year-old, who reversed his retirement decision to join Pakistan’s main squad for the tournament, was unable to play in the opening match against the USA due to the injury. Despite initial reports suggesting recovery progress and a potential return for the upcoming clash against India on Sunday, a recent update from Samaa News confirms that Imad Wasim will be heading back home.
Although there is a push from the PCB team management to include Imad against India, his participation remains highly unlikely due to lingering pain and incomplete fitness.
According to Samaa News, Imad Wasim is still experiencing discomfort and isn’t fully fit. Despite this, team management is keen to include him in the match against India.
In Imad’s absence, Pakistan is preparing to introduce another left-arm orthodox bowler, 21-year-old Mehran Mumtaz. Head coach Gary Kirsten selected Mehran Mumtaz to strengthen Pakistan’s lineup for the remainder of the tournament in the USA.
Pakistan’s disappointing start in the T20 World Cup included a loss to the USA via a Super Over after a subpar overall performance. With critical matches ahead, especially against arch-rivals India, Pakistan is under pressure to secure victories without further setbacks.
