Queensland managed 128 for 5 in their One-Day Cup match against Tasmania, with Matt Renshaw’s impressive 51 runs being the highlight of a day marred by rain and bad light. Only 16 overs were played at Junction Oval, leading to the sharing of points between the two teams.
Renshaw scored 51 off just 36 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes. His efforts came after a delayed start due to rain, which postponed the match by four and a half hours. The game was eventually shortened to a 20-over format, following the 50-over powerplay rules. Tasmania, coming off a defeat against Victoria on the same ground, opted to bowl first after winning the toss.
Queensland faced early setbacks as Gabe Bell dismissed Ben McDermott, and Beau Webster took out Max Bryant. However, Renshaw and new recruit Lachlan Hearne partnered effectively, adding 79 runs in just 8.4 overs, striking seven fours and four sixes before Webster claimed Hearne’s wicket.
Matt Kuhnemann took his first wicket for Queensland, bowling out former teammate Jack Wildermuth for 8. As the match reached 16 overs, the umpires checked the light and decided to halt play, never to resume. Consequently, the points were shared.
Queensland will remain in Melbourne to face Victoria on Friday, with Test opener Usman Khawaja set to return after missing the match against Tasmania.
