In the latest developments for IPL 2025, reports indicate that former India player Rahul Dravid has been approached by Rajasthan Royals to become their head coach for the upcoming season. Dravid’s tenure with the Indian cricket team recently ended after he led them to their second T20 World Cup victory.
Earlier, there were rumors that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might consider Rahul Dravid as a replacement for their outgoing mentor Gautam Gambhir. However, a report from the Times of India suggests that Dravid and Rajasthan Royals are in advanced talks. “Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is around the corner,” the Times of India reported.
Rahul Dravid has a strong connection with the Royals, having played for the inaugural IPL champions from 2011-13 and served as their mentor from 2014-15. The Royals are aiming for their second IPL title after coming close in 2022, when they lost to Gujarat Titans in the finals.
If Rahul Dravid becomes the head coach, whether Kumar Sangakkara, the current director of cricket, will stay with the team for the upcoming season remains uncertain. Since his last tenure with Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid has gained significant experience, including leading India to a T20 World Cup title and taking them to the finals of the 2023 World Cup.
This potential appointment could mark a significant move for the Royals as they aim to build on their recent performances and secure another IPL title.
