Veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a significant milestone during the ongoing first Test between India and Bangladesh at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Coming in at number eight, Ashwin showcased his batting prowess, striking a crucial half-century that placed him alongside Kapil Dev on an elite list of Indian cricketers.

Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Hasan Mahmud, the team’s premier pacer, exploited the seam-friendly conditions, dismantling India’s top order. He sent Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill back to the pavilion before dismissing the aggressive Rishabh Pant, leaving India in a precarious position.
Ashwin, however, played a pivotal role in the Indian fightback. He formed a resilient century partnership with Ravindra Jadeja for the eighth wicket, steadying the innings. Their combined efforts ensured India posted a competitive first-innings total.
Ashwin’s half-century marked his seventh 50-plus score at number eight on home soil, matching Kapil Dev’s record.
