On July 4, 2024, PM Modi hosted a joyful gathering with Team India at his residence in New Delhi, marking a stark contrast to their previous somber meeting in November 2023 after a World Cup loss to Australia. This time, amidst smiles and celebratory vibes, PM Modi engaged in candid chats and laughter with all the Indian cricketers. The players, adorned in special jerseys proudly displaying “champions” and bright stars symbolizing their T20 World Cup victory, gathered around PM Narendra Modi at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid sat beside PM Narendra Modi, while vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah completed the circle. PM Modi posed for photographs with the entire team alongside the coveted T20 World Cup trophy, which they clinched by defeating South Africa in Barbados.
The Indian team’s return to Delhi was met with warm fanfare after their triumphant journey, following a tightly scheduled arrival and brief rest at the ITC Maurya hotel before meeting Narendra Modi. Notably, only the cricketers, coaches, and top BCCI officials attended the PM’s ceremony, while their families awaited them at the hotel.
Earlier, the team faced challenges due to Hurricane Beryl, which delayed their return from Barbados, necessitating a specially arranged flight by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. The flight landed in Delhi early Thursday morning, setting the stage for the team’s subsequent celebrations, including a planned open bus parade in Mumbai.
Overall, the reunion with PM Narendra Modi highlighted the joyous culmination of India’s cricketing triumph, echoing nationwide pride and celebration for the T20 World Cup champions of 2024.
