The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Australian first-class player Tim Nielsen as the new red-ball high-performance coach, aiming to revitalize the team during a challenging period. A source within the PCB confirmed that Gillespie recommended Nielsen for the role, as the two have previously worked together at the South Australian Cricket Academy. Nielsen, who has four years of experience coaching the Australian national team, has already joined Gillespie’s support staff.
The PCB’s decision to bring in Nielsen is part of their strategy to strengthen the team’s preparations for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Nielsen and Gillespie will closely monitor the training camp, which begins on August 11, as they work to enhance the team’s performance.
Pakistan will face Bangladesh in a two-Test series, starting with the first match in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25, and the second Test in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
In addition to Nielsen, the PCB has retained former Test player Azhar Mahmood as assistant coach to Gillespie and white-ball coach Gary Kirsten, ensuring a comprehensive coaching setup for the national team.
