PCB boosts National Women’s One-Day Tournament

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a significant step towards bolstering women’s cricket in the country by revamping its Women’s 45-over competition. The new and improved tournament, aptly named the National Women’s One-Day Tournament, expands the competition to include six regional sides and adopts a more comprehensive format with 50-over matches played in a double-league structure. This revised format provides greater opportunities for participation and high-level competition, fostering the growth of women’s cricket in Pakistan.

An Overview of the Tournament

Hosted in the city of Faisalabad, the tournament offers a substantial playing experience for all participating teams. Moreover, each of the six regional teams – Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, and Rawalpindi – will compete in a minimum of 10 matches, excluding the much-anticipated Finals scheduled for May 11th. Furthermore, the top-performing teams will battle it out for the ultimate glory and a chance to claim the coveted PKR one million prize.

Various venues in Faisalabad will host the tournament, including the renowned Jawad Club Cricket Ground, the historic Iqbal Stadium, and the Bohranwali Cricket Ground.Additionally, the Saeed Ajmal Academy Ground will serve as a reserve venue, ensuring flexibility and smooth operation of the tournament.

The regional sides are led by captains selected for their outstanding cricketing skills and robust leadership capabilities. Omaima Sohail steers the Karachi Region, while Kaynat Hafeez commands the Lahore team. Saima Malik, Humna Bilal, Gull Rukh, and Mahnoor Aftab take on the captaincy roles for Quetta, Multan, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi, respectively, epitomizing strength and skill on the field.

The opening fixtures of the National Women’s One-Day Tournament promise an exciting start to the competition. Cricket fans can look forward to witnessing Quetta facing off against Rawalpindi at the Jawad Cricket Club Ground. Simultaneously, Karachi will lock horns with Multan at the Iqbal Stadium, while Peshawar will battle it out against Lahore at the Bohranwali Cricket Ground.
