The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to a hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy. This agreement comes with a significant condition. PTI reports that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has yielded to the BCCI’s demands. This could mark a resolution to the ongoing dispute between the two cricket boards.
The PCB had initially sought a meeting with the BCCI, which was scheduled for November 29 but was adjourned twice. In the latest development, it has emerged that the PCB has agreed to the hybrid model but with one key stipulation: all ICC events should adopt this model until 2031. This move signals Pakistan’s intention to not travel to India for future ICC events unless the hybrid model is adopted.
Pakistan’s reluctance to travel to India is especially pertinent as India is set to host the 2026 T20 World Cup. If the hybrid model is agreed upon, Pakistan will follow suit, with matches against India potentially held in Dubai. In a previous proposal, Pakistan had suggested that all India-Pakistan games be held in Lahore.
Meanwhile, the PCB has reportedly completed major renovations at the three venues for the 2025 Champions Trophy, though the full tournament schedule is yet to be released. As of now, it remains unclear whether India will play all their matches in Dubai or travel across the UAE. A formal announcement of the agreement is expected soon, likely by November 30 or December 1. PCB chairman Naqvi and BCCI secretary Jay Shah are currently in Dubai, attending the ongoing U-19 Asia Cup.
