Australian pace ace Pat Cummins, who led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the finals of IPL 2024, shared his readiness for the T20 World Cup 2024 as Australia prepares to face Oman in their opening match on June 6 in Barbados.
Pat Cummins expressed confidence in his current form in T20 cricket, emphasizing that the IPL was a significant contributor to his preparation. Furthermore, he highlighted that playing 17 consecutive T20 games in the IPL has bolstered his confidence and helped him hone specific deliveries crucial for the T20 format, all under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh.
“We played 17 games straight in the IPL. For me, it’s been about getting the pace of the game and executing deliveries like yorkers and slower balls, which are more critical in T20s,” Pat Cummins mentioned.
The 31-year-old discussed how IPL participation has enabled him to refine his bowling strategies tailored to the T20 format. Moreover, he noted the importance of understanding what works effectively in match situations
“A lot of T20 bowling is about planning your sequences and knowing when to bowl which delivery. Throughout the season, you quickly learn what’s effective and what adjustments are needed,” he elaborated.
Reflecting on his IPL experience, Cummins acknowledged the tournament’s role in building confidence, even when performances don’t immediately yield desired results.
“Even if things don’t click in the first game, I’ve learned to trust that my approach will bear fruit as the tournament progresses. Moreover, that gives me confidence heading into the World Cup,” Cummins stated.
In the IPL 2024, Cummins showcased his prowess with the ball, claiming 18 wickets in 16 matches and contributing 136 runs with the bat. He aims to carry forward this momentum into the T20 World Cup, eager to make a significant impact for Australia on the global stage.
