Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has expressed his dissatisfaction with the pre-seeding system implemented in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Australia dominated Group B with convincing victories over England, Scotland, Namibia, and Oman. However, despite their strong performance, they were designated as ‘B2’ for the Super Eight stage due to predetermined seedings.

Starc, who has taken two wickets at an economy rate of 8.80 in the group matches, raised concerns about the fairness of the pre-seeding process. In a press conference, he questioned the rationale behind a system that diminishes the significance of group standings in determining Super Eight fixtures.
The pre-seeding format has created scenarios where multiple group winners could potentially face each other in the Super Eight stage, sparking criticism from players and experts alike. Former champions India, for instance, received the ‘A1’ seed regardless of their group stage performances, underscoring the contentious nature of the seeding system.
Despite facing setbacks due to a minor injury that forced him off the field early against Oman and kept him out of the Namibia match, Starc returned to play against Scotland, conceding 31 runs in his four overs. The experienced bowler affirmed his readiness to compete in the upcoming Super Eight matches, starting with a clash against Bangladesh on June 21 in Antigua, followed by games against Afghanistan and India.
Australia, with a flawless record of 4-0 in the group stage, aims to navigate through the challenges posed by the pre-seeding controversy and advance further in the tournament under Starc’s leadership on the bowling front.
