Kolkata Knight Riders’ pacer expressed relief after a strong performance helped his team secure a commanding away victory against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
Starc, whose $2.98 million deal with Kolkata marked him as the most expensive player in league history, faced scrutiny after struggling in his initial two matches, remaining wicketless and conceding a combined 100 runs. However, the 34-year-old bounced back against Delhi, claiming 2-25 in three overs, dismissing Australians David Warner and Mitchell Marsh.
Kolkata, the twice champions, posted a formidable total of 272-7 before restricting Delhi to 166 all out, propelling themselves to the top of the points table with three consecutive wins.
Reflecting on his performance, Starc remarked, “You move on pretty quickly because the games come thick and fast. Yeah, probably not the start I wanted, but we’ve been winning games, so that’s what it’s about.” He emphasized the team’s success, stating, “We’re three-nil. And tonight, with bat and ball, we were pretty good, I think.”
Opener Sunil Narine’s explosive 85 off 39 balls set the tone for Kolkata’s dominant performance, nearly surpassing the league’s highest-ever total. Starc acknowledged the challenging nature of the format, particularly for bowlers, and highlighted the team’s clinical performance with both bat and ball.
“Personal stuff aside, the team’s start has been fantastic,” Starc concluded, focusing on Kolkata’s strong start to the season.
