Rajasthan Royals (RR) ended their four-match losing streak by eliminating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from IPL 2024 in a thrilling Eliminator in Ahmedabad. The Royals executed a well-rounded performance, from winning the toss to finding crucial boundaries, clinching a four-wicket win.
Despite the Narendra Modi Stadium being filled with RCB supporters, the expected big knocks were missing as bowlers dominated the match on May 22, 2024. However, several crucial cameos kept the fans on edge. Among them, Mahipal Lomror, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shimron Hetmyer stood out.
Mahipal Lomror

RCB’s middle-order batsman Mahipal Lomror provided much-needed momentum in the middle overs after the openers fell quickly. He smashed a rapid 32 off 17 balls, boasting an impressive strike rate of 188. Lomror’s aggressive style was evident as he hit two boundaries and two sixes, helping RCB reach a respectable total of 172. Despite his dismissal, his innings injected vital energy into the RCB lineup.
Yashasvi Jaiswal

Opening for RR, Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a steady knock that set a strong foundation for the chase. Starting slowly, Jaiswal accelerated after being dropped on three, striking four boundaries in the third over against Yash Dayal. He continued his aggressive play, forming a solid partnership with skipper Sanju Samson. Jaiswal scored 45 off 30 balls, including eight boundaries, but no sixes. His dismissal came while attempting an audacious scoop off Cameron Green, cutting his promising innings short.
Shimron Hetmyer

Returning to the RR lineup after a brief absence due to a niggle, Shimron Hetmyer played a critical role in stabilizing the chase. Coming in with RR needing 62 off 41 balls, Hetmyer and Riyan Parag formed a crucial partnership. Hetmyer’s 26 off 14 balls, with a strike rate of 185.71, included three boundaries and a six. His aggressive approach shifted the momentum back in RR’s favor, though he was eventually dismissed by a brilliant catch from Faf du Plessis. His efforts, combined with Rovman Powell’s final-over heroics, sealed the win for RR.
Who Batted Better?
All three batsmen played vital roles in their team’s performance. Lomror’s quickfire 32 provided a late boost for RCB, Jaiswal’s 45 anchored RR’s chase, and Hetmyer’s impactful 26 shifted the game’s momentum. While each contribution was significant, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s innings was arguably the most crucial in setting the foundation for RR’s victory, showcasing a blend of steadiness and aggression at a pivotal moment.
