This was Bangladesh’s lowest total defended while batting first against West Indies in T20Is.
Shamim Hossain’s unbeaten 35 off 17 balls provided a late flourish to Bangladesh’s innings, lifting them to a competitive total. Earlier, the visitors were in trouble at 88 for 7, with Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie causing damage. However, Shamim’s aggressive hitting, including two sixes off Obed McCoy, ensured Bangladesh crossed the 120-run mark.
Taskin Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan then wreaked havoc with the ball, reducing West Indies to 42 for 6. Taskin struck early, dismissing Brandon King and Andre Fletcher in quick succession. Mahedi followed with key wickets of Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran, tightening Bangladesh’s grip on the game.
Roston Chase (32) and Akeal Hosein (31) offered resistance, hitting a few sixes to keep West Indies’ hopes alive. However, young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain ended the fightback by dismissing Chase and Motie in the same over. Taskin wrapped up the innings, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 16.
Despite a finger injury to Soumya Sarkar during the game, Bangladesh’s bowlers dominated, ensuring their lowest defended total against West Indies would lead to a memorable series victory.
