The Lahore Police has implemented robust security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attending the ongoing Pakistan versus New Zealand T20I series at the historic Gaddafi Stadium. The series has shifted to Lahore for the final two matches of the five-game contest after the initial encounters in Rawalpindi.
Stringent security arrangements are a priority, especially with the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled for the West Indies and USA. To achieve this, Lahore Police has deployed a substantial force of over 5,500 police officials, including senior officers like SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs, along with a large contingent of subordinates. Their primary focus is on the comprehensive security of the players, support staff, officials, and cricket fans attending the T20I matches.
Capital City Police Officer Lahore, Bilal Siddique Kamyana, emphasized the significance of this security plan. He highlighted the importance of close collaboration between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), district administration, security agencies, and the police. These security measures include thorough inspections of everyone entering the stadium, with dedicated screening by the Lahore Police Force’s female officers for women attendees.
Furthermore, the authorities are taking steps to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the matches. The Safe City Authority and other control rooms are conducting real-time monitoring of the law and order situation. Additionally, enhanced patrolling by specialized units like the Dolphin Force, Special Protection Unit (SPU), and Elite Force teams will be present throughout the matches to maintain constant vigilance.
On the cricketing front, New Zealand has shown remarkable resilience, bouncing back from a second-match defeat to clinch victories in the following encounters. With a current lead of 2-1 heading into the final Lahore T20I on Saturday, the Blackcaps are determined to maintain their momentum and secure a series victory in Pakistan.
