Lahore High Court Delays Hearing of False Harassment Case Against Babar Azam

The Lahore High Court has postponed the hearing of the sexual harassment case against Pakistan’s cricket star, Babar Azam. Originally set for December 12, 2024, the hearing has now been rescheduled for December 16, 2024. Babar’s legal team, headed by Barrister Haris Azmat, was absent at the hearing, and the court granted an adjournment request from his junior lawyer. The delay adds to the ongoing controversy surrounding Babar’s personal life and the harassment case, which has sparked widespread public gossip.

The case involves allegations from Hamiza Mukhtar, a woman who claims to have been a close acquaintance of Babar Azam. Mukhtar accuses the cricketer of promising to marry her, only to later exploit her sexually. She alleges that Babar pressured her into an abortion and failed to fulfill his promise after achieving fame. Mukhtar has presented medical documents to support her claims. The case, which started in 2021, has drawn significant public attention, particularly due to allegations that the police refused to file an FIR after she reported incidents of blackmail and fornication.

While the case continues, Babar Azam has received temporary relief. In an earlier hearing, the court dismissed a case filed by Mukhtar, following an investigation by the police. The police report cleared Babar, stating that neither Mukhtar nor her family experienced blackmail or harassment from his family. However, the final verdict is still pending.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam is leading Pakistan in the T20I series against South Africa, although the team has struggled, with South Africa dominating the first match. The series continues with another match scheduled at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
