Matthew Kuhnemann will undergo testing on his bowling action despite being sidelined with a thumb injury. The spinner, ruled out of Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield match against South Australia due to a dislocated thumb sustained in the BBL, will still complete ICC testing within the next two weeks as the injury is not on his bowling hand. The ICC cited Kuhnemann for a suspect action during Australia’s series in Sri Lanka, where he took 16 wickets at an average of 17.18. He will undergo testing at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane under ICC supervision.

The biomechanical assessment will involve markers on his arm and multiple cameras recording his bowling, ensuring it aligns with his match performance. The ICC will then decide whether his action exceeds the 15-degree limit for elbow extension. Despite the setback, Kuhnemann remains optimistic, supported by his Tasmania teammates and captain Jordan Silk, who praised Kuhnemann’s recent performance with the Australian team and expressed confidence in his clearance.
ICC rules permit Kuhnemann to play domestic cricket during the testing process but bar him from international matches. If cleared, he can continue bowling; if not, he must modify his action to comply with ICC standards. Tasmania, aiming for a Shield final spot, will miss Kuhnemann’s contributions but expect him back later in the season. Kuhnemann also stands as a strong contender for Australia’s June tour of the West Indies, provided he clears his action test.
