Kraigg Brathwaite Steps Down as West Indies Test Captain Ahead of Australia SeriesThe West Indies cricket team has been in a decline in recent years, failing to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup and missing out on the Champions Trophy. As a result, the board has decided to initiate a leadership overhaul in hopes of reviving the team’s fortunes.

Brathwaite, who took over the captaincy in March 2021, led the team through several notable successes. Under his leadership, West Indies secured their first Test win in Australia in 27 years and triumphed in a dramatic eight-run victory in Brisbane in 2024. He also guided the team to a historic victory in Pakistan, their first in 34 years, and led them to a home series win over England in 2022 and a 2-0 series win against Bangladesh during the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, in his farewell video, Brathwaite emphasized that it was time for him to hand over the baton. He confirmed he would continue contributing to West Indies cricket as a batter.

In a significant fixture, Australia will return to the Caribbean for Test cricket after nearly a decade. The three-match Test series will kick off at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 25, 2025. The second and third Tests will take place in Grenada and Jamaica, followed by a five-match T20I series across Sabina Park and Basseterre.
