During the ongoing fifth Test match against England in Dharamsala, young Indian sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal surpassed Virat Kohli’s record of 655 runs in a Test series against the same opposition. Jaiswal’s tally now stands at 656 runs, edging him closer to Sunil Gavaskar’s Indian record of 774 runs in a Test series. He is just 36 runs shy of eclipsing Kohli’s 692 runs achieved in the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar series in Australia.

Sunil Gavaskar holds the top two spots in the list of most runs by an Indian in a Test series, with 774 runs against West Indies in 1970-71 and 732 runs against the same opposition in 1978-79. Following him are Virat Kohli’s 692 runs against Australia in 2014-15, and now, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ongoing tally of 656 runs against England in 2024. Kohli also features again with 655 runs against England in 2016-17.
