New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has filled their vacant bowling coach position by appointing former all-rounder Jacob Oram. The role has been unoccupied since Shane Jurgensen’s departure in November 2023. Oram, who will officially begin his duties on October 7, 2024, brings significant coaching experience to the position.

Oram’s coaching journey began in 2014 with New Zealand A, and he later became the bowling coach for the New Zealand Women’s team in 2018, a role he held until the ICC Women’s World Cup 2021. Most recently, he led Central Districts to their first Super Smash final since 2016 as head coach. His international coaching experience includes stints with Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and MI Cape Town in SA20. Additionally, Oram was part of the New Zealand men’s coaching staff during the 2023 Test tour of Bangladesh, the 2024 home T20I series against Australia, and the ICC T20 World Cup.
Oram had a successful international playing career, featuring in 33 Tests, 160 ODIs, and 36 T20Is for New Zealand. He took 252 wickets across formats and was a reliable lower-order batsman, scoring over 4,600 runs, including six Test centuries. In the IPL, Oram represented Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings, contributing with both bat and ball across 18 matches.
