Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) enter IPL 2025 with a new captain and revamped coaching staff, but Varun Chakravarthy believes they can replicate last season’s success. Speaking before the season opener, Varun emphasized the importance of starting fresh despite being defending champions.

“We want to defend the title. Our squad looks strong with Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, Spencer Johnson, Moeen Ali, and Rovman Powell,” Varun said. He acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the IPL, highlighting the need to treat each season as a new challenge.
Varun, who was the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024, is eager to face Virat Kohli in the opener. He has kept Kohli quiet in the past, conceding just 40 runs in 39 balls across seven innings, though he has dismissed him only once. “I’m excited to bowl to Virat bhai again. I’ve done my homework, not just on him but on the entire RCB team,” Varun said.
Although Varun didn’t disclose his plans, he hinted at having “new weapons” to unleash. He emphasized that success isn’t just about variations but also about the “sequencing of deliveries,” something he has been refining since his early days with Kings XI Punjab.
Varun expressed confidence in bowling at any phase of the innings. He revealed that he had discussed his role with the new captain and was ready to deliver whenever needed.
He is also excited to reunite with Sunil Narine, with whom he took 38 wickets last season. “Narine is a legend and was the MVP last year. He looks well-prepared again. I’m eager to see him perform like he did last season,” Varun said.
With a solid squad and a focused mindset, KKR is ready to chase another successful IPL campaign.
