Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) slumped to their fourth straight defeat in IPL 2025 after a poor batting display on a slow, black-soil surface in Hyderabad. Chasing 153, Gujarat Titans (GT) sealed a comfortable seven-wicket win, thanks to impactful performances from Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, and Shubman Gill.
SRH’s innings never gained momentum after losing Travis Head early in the powerplay. Head managed two boundaries off Mohammed Siraj but fell for 8 after mistiming a wobble-seam delivery. Siraj then dismissed Abhishek Sharma, Aniket Verma, and Simarjeet Singh to finish with a career-best 4 for 17. His spell included his 100th IPL wicket and continued dominance in the powerplay this season with an economy of 6.27.
While Rashid Khan struggled again, going wicketless for the third match in a row and conceding 31 runs, Sai Kishore provided control and breakthroughs. He dismissed Klaasen and Reddy to end with 2 for 24. Cummins’ quickfire 22* off nine balls lifted SRH to 152 for 8, their only batter with a strike rate over 160.
In reply, GT lost early wickets but were steadied by Washington Sundar, who smashed 49 off 24 balls at No. 4. He struck two sixes and five fours, dominating the powerplay and ensuring GT stayed ahead. Though he missed out on a maiden IPL fifty, his cameo took the pressure off skipper Shubman Gill.
Gill anchored the chase with a composed 61* off 43 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford added a rapid 35* off 16 to complete the win in the 19th over. GT’s third win in four games lifted them to second on the points table, while SRH remained winless since their opening match.
