Shardul Thakur’s impressive 4 for 34 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday night propelled him to the top of the Purple Cap leaderboard in IPL 2025 after seven games. His spell, the second-best bowling performance this season, came after a solid 2 for 19 in Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) opening loss to Delhi Capitals (DC). Thakur, who replaced the injured Mohsin Khan, dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan off consecutive deliveries before removing Abhinav Manohar and Mohammed Shami later. With six wickets in two games, Thakur now leads the Purple Cap race.

Noor Ahmad from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) follows closely in second place. His match-winning 4 for 18 against Mumbai Indians (MI) showcased his wrist-spin brilliance. Krunal Pandya, who took 3 for 29 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025 opener, holds the third position.
On the Orange Cap table, Nicholas Pooran sits comfortably on top after two explosive innings. His 75 off 30 balls against DC and 70 off 26 against SRH have been pivotal for LSG. Batting at No. 3, Pooran has also smashed 13 sixes in two games and leads the six-hitters’ chart. His strike rate of 258.91 is currently the highest this season.
Mitchell Marsh, LSG’s opening batter, is right behind Pooran with 124 runs. His 72 from 36 balls against DC and 52 from 31 balls against SRH highlight his consistency. Returning from injury, Marsh’s contribution as a batter has given LSG stability at the top.
Travis Head, after a stellar IPL 2024, is third on the Orange Cap list. His quickfire 67 off 31 balls against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and 47 off 28 against LSG underline his ongoing good form.
