Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have retained six players for IPL 2025, spending INR 69 crore and leaving INR 41 crore for the mega auction. While several departments are covered, their batting unit, particularly the top order, needs reinforcement to build a balanced squad.

KKR’s lower middle-order looks strong with Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, and Andre Russell among the retained players. Strengthening the top-order batting lineup will be their key focus. Here are three batters they might target in the auction:
1. KL Rahul
With Shreyas Iyer’s departure, KKR need a captain who can also anchor the innings. KL Rahul is an ideal fit, offering leadership and a dependable Indian opening option. His inclusion would provide flexibility in selecting overseas players. KKR’s aggressive investments in captains like Gautam Gambhir and Shreyas Iyer have yielded success in the past, making Rahul a prime target.
2. Phil Salt
KKR have a history of re-signing players they value, as seen with Nitish Rana in the past. They could follow a similar approach for Phil Salt, who had an explosive IPL 2024 season as an opener. His partnership with Sunil Narine proved highly effective, and KKR might invest significantly to reunite this duo for another season.
3. Devon Conway
Another strong option for KKR is Devon Conway. Known for his consistency with CSK, Conway could bring much-needed stability to KKR’s top order. If CSK don’t retain him using an RTM, Conway could become a smart budget acquisition for KKR. Additionally, the presence of Dwayne Bravo, a former CSK stalwart now mentoring KKR, might play a role in securing Conway.
KKR’s auction strategy could be pivotal in shaping their IPL 2025 campaign.
