IPL 2024 to Kick Off on March 22 During General Elections Season

The eagerly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024 is slated to commence on March 22, according to recent reports. The scheduling of the competition faced a degree of uncertainty owing to the simultaneous occurrence of the 2024 general elections, typically held in the April-May timeframe.

The IPL has adeptly adjusted schedules to accommodate elections, as seen in the 2019 edition split between India and UAE. In 2009, the entire tournament unfolded in South Africa due to similar considerations. A recent report suggests that IPL hosts won’t coincide with election cities, reflecting efforts by BCCI secretary Jay Shah to hold the entire tournament in India. Deliberations with the central government aim to address security concerns, ensuring robust measures during the elections.

Delhi and Bangalore to Host WPL 2024 Ahead of IPL Season

Ahead of the IPL season, the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to unfold in Delhi and Bangalore. Unlike its inaugural edition held entirely in Mumbai, this season promises an enhanced experience with matches spanning two cities. Scheduled for February-March, it will lead up to the 2024 IPL, following a successful mini-auction in Mumbai on December 9, 2023. The Mumbai Indians (MI) women’s team secured their championship title, triumphing over the Delhi Capitals (DC) women’s side in the previous year’s final.
